IGS Animal Welfare Guidelines Featured by Pet & Garden Pro

We are delighted to share that the International Grooming Society’s Animal Welfare Guidelines for Grooming Events have been featured by Pet & Garden Pro.

This publication marks another important step in raising international awareness of the need for clear, practical and responsible animal welfare standards throughout the professional grooming industry.

Putting animal welfare at the heart of grooming events

Grooming competitions, seminars, workshops, live demonstrations and product presentations bring together professionals, educators, organisers, brands and distributors from around the world.

As these events continue to grow in scale and visibility, the International Grooming Society believes that the welfare of every animal involved must remain a central priority.

The IGS Animal Welfare Guidelines were created to provide organisers and industry stakeholders with a practical framework for planning and managing activities involving live animals responsibly—before, during and after an event.

Their key principles include:

  • minimising unnecessary stress and risk for animals;

  • promoting calm, respectful and appropriate handling;

  • preparing clear animal welfare procedures before an event;

  • supporting effective communication between organisers, participants and animal guardians;

  • encouraging transparency and professional responsibility throughout the industry.

Recognition from the professional pet industry

The article published by Pet & Garden Pro highlights the importance of establishing professional standards that protect animals while also supporting groomers, organisers and companies involved in grooming events.

For the IGS, technical excellence alone is not enough. The future and credibility of the grooming profession must also be built upon trust, transparency, responsibility and a genuine commitment to animal welfare.

We sincerely thank Pet & Garden Pro for helping us bring this important initiative to the attention of the wider professional pet industry.

Supporting responsible grooming worldwide

The International Grooming Society invites event organisers, grooming associations, educational institutions, brands and other industry partners to adopt, promote and actively support these guidelines.

By working together, we can help ensure that professional grooming events remain places of education, innovation and excellence—without ever compromising the physical or emotional wellbeing of the animals at their centre.
