A well-maintained coat for a truly comfortable winter

When it’s cold, the coat works like a real “puffer jacket.” But to protect effectively, it has to stay airy, clean, and supple. The goal isn’t to shorten at all costs, but to prevent knots and compacted undercoat (matting) with gentle, regular care. A maintained coat insulates better, lets the skin breathe, and helps your pet adapt to temperature changes between the outdoors and a heated home.
In winter, matting is the enemy of comfort. Outside, it traps moisture and cools the skin; inside, it blocks airflow, holds heat, and can lead to overheating, itching, and redness. To avoid this, keep to a simple routine: short but frequent brush-outs, open the coat in the direction of hair growth, and allow calm, complete drying after wet outings. After walks on salted roads, a lukewarm rinse of the paws followed by gentle blot-drying often protects the skin and limits irritation.
